One grocery list for the whole house
The Okonkwos had three grocery lists: paper on the fridge, notes on Dad's phone, and the kids texting "can someone get milk?" into the group chat. Here is how they moved to one Portico list that everyone adds to, and whoever is at the store checks off.
- You'll needPortico Mobile and an agent. A Cloud Agent is fine.
- AppsPortico Lists (Grocery list)
- TimeAbout 10 minutes, plus a minute for each person you invite
What you'll end up with
- A Grocery list called "Groceries" on your agent.
- Everyone in the house on that list from their own phone.
- A notification when someone else adds or removes an item, if you turn it on.
-
Get Portico and an agent
Your list lives on your agent. If you were invited to someone else's Portico, you can still make your own.
- Install Portico Mobile from the App Store or Google Play.
- Go to web.porticoworks.dev/start and sign up.
- Start with a Cloud Agent. We host it, so there's nothing to install. You can move to an Edge Agent at home later and keep the same lists and invites.

Make the Grocery list
A Grocery list is made for shopping: add things as you think of them, check them off in the aisle.
- Open Portico Lists.
- On the Lists card, tap + (New list).
- In Name (optional), type Groceries.
- Set Type to Grocery and tap Create.
Tip: Hold a list's title to rename, duplicate, or delete it.

Seed the list so the family sees how it works when they join.
- Open Groceries.
- Type in Add an item… and tap +.
- Hands full? Tap the mic (Dictate item) and say it.

Invite the family to the list
Inviting someone to this list is what lets them see it. Do it once per person.
- In the list, tap the Users pill.
- Tap + (Invite someone).
- Fill in Invite name (for example Amara's phone). Add their email in To email if you have it.
- Pick how to send it: QR if they're standing next to you, or Text / Email if they aren't.
Good to know: Open QR links expire after 10 minutes, so show the QR while they're in the room. If they already use Portico, pick them under Or pick a friend and tap Invite.

They accept on their phone
Nothing technical for them: scan, sign in, accept.
- They scan the QR with the phone's normal Camera, or tap the link you texted. Portico Mobile opens.
- They sign in or create an account.
- They tap Accept. The phone sets up its connection to your agent by itself.
- Groceries shows up in their Portico Lists.

Turn on notifications
Find out when someone adds something while you're already at the store.
- When Lists asks, tap Turn on notifications. Or go to Settings → Notifications and turn on Allow notifications.
- In the list, open Settings and turn on Item added and Item removed under Notifications. These apply to the whole list: everyone except the person who made the change gets a notification.
Each person still turns on Allow notifications on their own phone.

Shop and check things off
Whoever's in the aisle checks items off, and everyone else sees it right away.
- Tap the checkbox on an item to mark it done.
- In the list's Settings, When marking items decides what happens next: Move to Done, Remove, or Mark in place.
- With Move to Done, tap Clear next to the Done header after you unpack.
